If there is one thing the Toy Stories series have bragging rights to, it’s the fact that every person who watched Toy Story 3 last June probably went home crying like a little baby. Whether you admit it or not, Toy Story has a way of touching hearts and making us feel bouts of nostalgia. While the first Toy Story movie was made especially for kids and wasn’t much of a tearjerker, Toy Story 3 surely caused enough tears to drown a village.
The Cast of Toy Story
Toy Story tells us the unlikely friendship of talking toys and the love of their human owner. The adventure of Sheriff Woody Pride, Jessie, Buzz Lightyear, Rex, Hamm and several other toys and their owner, Andy, is not the usual Disney tale but it is a story which has touched kids and parents all over the globe. Although movie critics say that Toy Story’s plot was rather simple, the main characters delivered their sentiments as toys in a manner which we could relate with.
As the Toy Story series catapulted into fame, their characters have also received a special kind of recognition of their own in Comic Con events, Halloween celebrations and costume-themed parties—party-goers of all ages have been attending events like these in Toy Story costumes. Whether you are a child of an adult, there is no denying that Toy Story is a story mostly everyone has loved and going to a party donning Woody Pride’s iconic hat or Buzz Lightyear’s costume is a practical choice.
The main character of the story is Woody Pride, a traditional pull-string toy and Andy’s favorite playtime companion. He became the de facto leader of a small band of Andy’s favorite toys but this highly coveted spot was almost taken from his by his battery-operated counterpart, Buzz Lightyear. Although Woody is given a leader-like reputation in Andy’s room, he has, for a few occasions, acted like the antagonist of the film when he tried to harm Buzz Lightyear in the second sequel. Woody Pride’s origin in the story is of great sentimental significance as well—he is a hand-me-down toy from Andy’s father and perhaps from Andy’s grandfather. His deep and long relationship with the family pushed him to retaliate against the other toys in Sunnyvale Kindergarten.
Although Buzz Lightyear did not start off as Woody’s closest ally, Buzz retains his status as an important character in the third movie. While Woody and Buzz are not the best of friends, they often agree with each other and in times of need, work together to save the other toys. Buzz arrived in Andy’s life as a birthday present and has consequently become one of his favorites, along with Woody Pride.
Buzz Lightyear’s attire resembles a space suit with retractable rocket wings. He also comes with a utility belt with various weapons which he uses to survive against other antagonistic toys.
Another favorite Toy Story collectible and costume choice is Jessie, the yodeling cowgirl. She was abandoned by her original owner, giving her a detached personality in Toy Story 2 but with the help of her new found friends, Woody and Buzz, she was able to regain her trust for the other toys. At the end of Toy Story 2, Andy considers her his third favorite toy.
Jessie is seen wearing a cowgirl costume just like Sheriff Woody but they are not related in any way nor did they know each other prior to Toy Story 2.
