Sheriff Woody Pride is the de facto leader of Andy’s room. The other toys which Andy owns look up to Woody for his wisdom and over-all charming personality. These outstanding traits of his has made him a favorite in and out of the silver screen.
Kids who have seen the first Toy Story movie in 1995 instantly made Woody one of their favorite cartoon characters of all time– and who wouldn’t? In the year Toy Story was released, the love for anything 3D grew and Woody and his pals became 3D characters worth remembering.
Sheriff Woody Pride is Andy’s favorite among the other toys in his room. Despite being an old, hand-me-down toy, Andy still gives Woody special attention and has even taken him with him to summer camps and as shown in Toy Story 3, supposedly to college. However, Woody’s love for his fellow toys made him choose to stay with his buddies instead, knowing that the all-grown up Andy will be able to take care of himself.
Woody Pride was brought to life by a famous actor, Tom Hanks. He has voiced the wooden protagonist ever since Toy Story was released in 1995. Tom Hanks talent of making a wooden toy seem so lively and realistic contributes to the reason why Sheriff Woody Pride has remained a favorite toy for kids all these years; and also a top choice for Halloween costumes.
Even though Woody Pride is known for being a just leader, he gets jealous sometimes too, especially when other toys are involved. When Buzz Lightyear, a battery-operated space hero arrives at Andy’s Christmas party as a gift, Woody became more defensive and even tried to kick Buzz out of Andy’s room; however, the goodness in Woody’s heart prevailed and over time, came to like Buzz Lightyear.
Unlike Buzz, Woody is a pull-string toy; that means, he says Western quotes when a string on his back is pulled. Among his favorite lines are:
- “Somebody’s poisoned the waterhole!”
- “This town ain’t big enough for the two of us.”
- “You’re my favorite deputy.”
- “Yee-ha! Giddy up, partner! We’ve got to get this wagon train a-movin.”
- “I’d like to join your posse, boys, but first I’m gonna sing a little song.”
- “Reach for the sky.”
- “There’s a snake in my boot.”
