There’s a green ogre in all of us!
Shrek
Shrek, the popular and friendly green ogre from Dreamworks’ Shrek series, has been a 3D character favorite since 2001, but prior to becoming everyone’s favorite green guy, Shrek was once an intimidating character living on his lonesome in a swamp. He had hated neighbors, visitors, and the other fairy tale characters who tried to cross his property. For a period of time, everybody felt that Shrek was no one to befriend.
That all changed though when Lord Farquaad commanded the imprisonment of all odd creatures in his kingdom. Every fairy tale character, from singing pigs to a talking wolf, took shelter in a lonely hut in the swamp—coincidentally, this hut belonged to the creature they feared the most, Shrek.
Shrek’s adventure started when he and his sidekick, Donkey (a talking Donkey voiced by Eddie Murphy), set off to save a princess trapped within a high tower that is closely guarded by an enormous, scaly, female, fire-breathing dragon. Princess Fiona, the mystery woman from the tower, had little hope for liberation.
Princess Fiona
Although saving Fiona from the tower seemed impossible, Shrek braved through the challenges to capture her, but little did he know he had also captured Fiona’s heart!
Princess Fiona was introduced as a beautiful Princess living in a castle but like most fairy tale characters, her beauty seemed too good to be true. Every night, away from the eyes of people, Princess Fiona herself transforms into an ugly, green ogre during nightfall, but despite Fiona’s unsightly transformation, Shrek looked past her green scaly skin and accepted her for who she is.
Shrek has not only become a favorite story character, he has also been a top pick for Halloween costumes by kids and parents alike. Who wouldn’t want to portray the most lovable ogre of all time? This Halloween, if you want to frighten people with your green, ghoulish Shrek look and at the same time, portray the funniest character in 3D movie history, there are many Shrek costumes that are sure to do the trick.
The most perfect Shrek costume is one that includes a green Shrek mask to make sure you resemble the green ogre closely. You get a plus if you’re chubby or if you have a beer belly—after all, ogres are supposed to be huge creatures.
Whether you are a child, a teenager or a dad, wearing a Shrek costume to any costume-themed celebration will make you an instant favorite, with 3 sequels since the first Shrek movie and 2 TV specials as proof!
The “right” Shrek costume comes with long sleeved shirt with tattered details on the sleeves and lower hem and a brown vest. The same material and color used for the brown vest is also used for the sash which is tied around Shrek’s bulging tummy. For the pants, Shrek is seen wearing brown tights, usually with pattern details and sometimes plain brown.
If you want to pull off a better Shrek look, invite the entire gang to dress up as Shrek’s buddies too! Look for a female friend to dress up as Fiona and your child or one of your other friends to dress up as Donkey. You should also invite other family members or friends to dress up as villains such as the Gingerbread man or as Fiona’s step sisters.
