Over the years, Halloween has created film adaptations of this popular part-hero-part-villain on the silver screen. These are the wise and brave gentlemen, who gained the honor of playing the legendary character in their lives.
1. Robin Hood (2010 film)
Based on the popular Robin Hood legend, Robin Hood is a family-adventure film released in 2010. This version stars Russell Crowe as the famed thief with Cate Blanchett as his leading lady, Maid Marian. Although the entire film was planned since year 2007, director Ridley Scott found the story too bland for his taste and had the entire storyline changed into Robin Hood’s adventures instead of Nottingham’s.
2. Robin Hood: Men in Tights (1993)
This family-comedy film came from the great mind of famed comedian, Mel Brooks. Instead of featuring a whole new storyline, this film adaptation is a parody of previous Robin Hood films such as Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Robin Hood by Disney and other popular films and TV commercials released around that time.
Various modern-day objects are seen in the film to add to its comedic appeal. Jokes have also been added to the dialogue to make it an enjoyable film adaptation. Mel Brooks himself also appears in the movie as Rabbi Tuckman, the Jewish counterpart of the original Friar Tuck, who drives around his carriage to hand out Sacramental wine, which is, in this case barrels of rum.
Even the fight scenes of this film are whimsical and often incorporate comedic effects. In the sword fight between Robin Hood and the Sheriff of Nottingham, the two engage in a shadow fight using their hands. This scene is a parody often found in Flynn’s movies.
3. Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991)
This family-adventure film was released in 1991 and features Kevin Costner as Robin Hood with Elizabeth
Mastrantonio as Maid Marian. The role of Robin Hood’s sidekick, Azeem, is played by Morgan Freeman with Alan Rickman playing the role of their common enemy, the Sheriff of Nottingham. Although the film boasted a star-studded cast, Kevin Costner’s use of his original American accent in the film gave it a few negative reviews.
4. Robin Hood (Disney)
Released in November 1973, Disney released their own version of the story in an animated feature. Instead of using human figures to represent Robin Hood and the rest of the tale’s characters, animals are used. Robin Hood is a fox who steals from the rich and donates his treasure to the poor. His leading lady is a vixen while his archenemy, the Sheriff of Nottingham is a wolf.

5. Robin and Marian (1976)
This English/American production brings together two popular stars to play the lead roles: Sean Connery plays the role of Robin Hood and Audrey Hepburn as Maid Marian. The film was considered one of the most romantic films at the time– that’s pretty obvious!
