Robin Hood would not have successfully pulled off his breathtaking feats and well-planned crimes without the help of these prominent characters. Furthermore, without the intervention of these 5 top prominent characters, Robin Hood would not gain the title of Prince of Thieves if people had not helped him in his plans.
Maid Marian
The earlier version of Robin Hood’s tale did not mention a female character as his companion nor did he ever meet a royal damsel in any of his adventures. The first few adaptations of Robin Hood’s tale described the thief to be a brute instead of a royal gentleman and cared less for women.
The character of Maid Marian was added later on during May Day festivities in Whitsun. Although Marian, or Marion as she is often named is a character from a different legend, event-goers made her Robin Hood’s companion in his adventures in later story adaptations.
Other historians believe that Maid Marian’s tale was added later on as a devotion to Mother Mary. The addition of Maid Marian also gave Robin a personality reboot– instead of being a jungle brute, he was later described to be a gentleman who loved the poor.
Robin Hood and his Merry Men loved adventures and of course, beer! The tavern man’s costume is perfect for playing different medieval characters and would do well for Renaissance-themed parties and of course, Halloween!
The King’s Musketeers
When Robin Hood and his band of thieves attack castles and royal offices belonging to abusive leaders, the royal musketeers would often rush to the royal’s side! These loyal and brave gentlemen are skilled in the art of sword fighting but can’t match Robin’s accurate group of archers!
Friar Tuck
Friar Tuck is one of Robin Hood’s closest friends in the village. He is often considered a part of Robin Hood’s band of thieves but in other story adaptations, he is one of the many people Robin Hood has helped. To show his appreciation for Robin Hood’s donations to the abbey, he often assists the band in their adventures. In a later story version of Robin Hood, he oversees the marriage between him and Maid Marian.
Of course, Robin Hood would not be able to pull his feats on his own. In the beginning of the Robin Hood tale, it is believed that he recruited loyal friends to join him in his cause of stealing from the rich and giving to the poor.
