Playboy costumes are really a Halloween favorite and seemingly never goes out of style. If you’re inspired by popular centerfolds, pin-ups and cover girls then choosing a Playboy costume is a no brainer. Hey, If you’re a guy, you can always go as Hugh Hefner and surround yourself with beautiful women.
Of course, everyone knows that the only reason Hugh gets the girls is because of all of his money. So be prepared to spend some money. A fun idea that some people have used is to throw around paper money. That might be a bit silly, but hey it’s Halloween. It’s the perfect holiday to get silly.
Because the magazine has been in circulation since 1953, there are many different outfits to choose from. The she-devil costume is one of the most recognizable. A red shiny bra and tight fitting pants are connected by straps attached to an O-ring that encircles the belly button, creating a jump-suit. A pointy poker and red horns complete the costume.
Most people will remember the gangster queen and the female cop, too. A blonde wig is not essential for those costumes, but there were definitely more blondes than brunettes in the magazines.
Some Playboy costumes were inspired by sexy outfits worn in music videos, such as the school girl outfit made popular by Britney Spears. Basically, if it is short, low-cut and is worn with stockings and high heels, then it’s a costume.
Prices vary, as do the accessories. So, you may want to do a little shopping around, although from what I’ve seen doing research the best and cheapest costumes can be found at buycostumes.com. The Playboy Princess costume, which is always popular, retails for around $100, but you can get it for under that at buycostumes.com. The dress, sleeves, stockings and crown are generally included, but you’ll need to buy your own shoes and a wig, if necessary.
Regardless of the pin-up that inspired the costume, the classic bunny decoration must be included. Whether on stockings, crowns, sleeves or a purse that doubles as a “candy” collector, the bunny must be there or no one will “get” the reference.
Some of the Playboy costumes that you have to choose from online include the “Little Red Vixen”, “Miss Bunny Costume”, the classic french maid costume and Playboy’s Nurse costume”. The naughty angel has black wings and a crooked halo, just like the magazine photos.
The official or “authorized” Playboy costumes cost more than the phonies. But, for the difference in quality, they are worth it, even if you only wear it for just one night.
