10. Mario and Luigi’s family name is Mario.
Of course, why else would the two be referred to as the Mario Brothers if their family name wasn’t Mario? According to Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto, the brothers’ family name is Mario, which makes Mario’s full name as Mario Mario and Luigi’s as Luigi Mario.
9. The first part of the game series occurred in the sewers of New York.
Long before Mario met Yoshi who eventually brought him to Yoshi’s Island and to the Mushroom Kingdom, Mario and Luigi found his enemy crabs and turtles in the pipelines and sewers of New York; after all, Mario and his brother are both plumbers.

They felt it was too difficult to portray his hair and mouth once Mario has been shrunk into a small, playable character, so, to save themselves the struggle of having to draw his hair and mouth, the creators gave them a hat and a moustache.
