These Rock n’ Roll legends from the 70’s have become very memorable musicians due to their upbeat hits and energy concerts but what made them more famous from the 70’s down to the 80’s was their unusual stage attire; unlike other rock stars who sported long hair and shiny, sequined jackets, these popular superstars made headlines with their unique futuristic-themed costumes and black, white and red make-up. These Rock n’ Roll superstars are further known for their eccentric stage antics such as guitar tricks, blood spitting, and their common use of pyrotechnics during live performances.
KISS
KISS first started out in New York’s underground rock scene until they eventually topped the Rock n’ Roll charts in America. Aside from their powerful musical skills and stage performances, band mates Paul Stanley, Peter Criss, Ace Frehley, and Gene Simmons are known for their outlandish alter ego and unique costumes. On stage, these rock legends turn from simple guitarists to superhuman musical geniuses which is why, two decades later, KISS is as visible as ever on VH1.
If you’ve never been to a KISS concert before, you’ve missed out on a lot of fun—but hey, that’s nothing to be sad about; if you can’t go to where the fun is, let the fun come to you. Get three of your friends together and you could be the (unofficial) KISS band 2.0! Or better yet, jump into the next Halloween bash in your rock idols’ suit and you’ll surely gain a fan following of your own.
THE STARCHILD
Paul Stanley is KISS’s memorable vocalist and rhythm guitarist. He is known for the one eye star patch on his right eye and blood red lipstick. According to Stanley’s band mates, Stanley is known to be an unfortunate hopeless romantic and that’s probably the reason why this Starchild puts streams of emotions into his singing.
To look like Paul Stanley, you need a black jacket with silver sleeves and collar. Stars should be sown into certain parts of the jacket to resemble the same one Stanley wears onstage during major concerts. You also need a pair of Starchild boots with star details. Finally, top your look with black and silver choker.
Take note of Paul Stanley’s hairdo during his stint with KISS in the 80’s: his unruly do makes this Starchild look wild and fit for a rock star.
THE CATMAN
While growing up in Brooklyn, Peter Criss lived a tougher childhood than his other KISS band mates. His countless brushes with danger earned him the nickname Catman. Catman’s make up is one of the most elaborate designs to do but you could always save yourself the trouble by using a latex mask instead with Catman’s face make-up printed on it. Don it on and you’ve got the Catman look in less than a minute!
Of course, you won’t be able to pull off the original Catman look without the original costume. Catman’s costume was built for humid concert stages hence the sleeve-less top. To top this look, don’t forget to wear the trademarked Catman boots.
THE DEMON
One of the two oldest remaining members of KISS is Gene Simmons, also known as the Demon to his fans and band mates. He also happens to be one of the most popular rockstars of all time, charting 29 on Hit Parader’s 100 Greatest Heavy Metal Singers. Gene’s fame on stage and off stage makes him a top favorite among KISS fans. His costume is one of the most recognizable rock star suits as well. His bejeweled leather jacket, finger-less gloves, signature black and silver choker, and cape makes the Demon a top Halloween costume choice as well.
THE SPACEMAN
Last but not the least, the Spaceman, or Ace Frehley, is known for his gray eye make-up, a diversion from the usual black and white face paint donned by his band mates. Ace’s Spaceman alter ego came from his liking of anything sci-fi and this fondness of his is reflected in his costume.
