Although Peter Criss is often seen on the background as KISS’s drummer, he gathered the likes of Ace, Paul and Gene to form the legendary rock band. After his stint with Lips, his first Rock n’ Roll band, Criss made an advertisement on an edition of the Rolling Stone magazine looking for a guitarist and a vocalist. Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons became the first two members of the group and Ace Stanley was added afterwards. In December 1972, KISS was officially formed.
In KISS, Peter Criss is often seen donning feline make-up, or as he calls himself, the Catman. Criss’ rough childhood while growing up in Brooklyn is the reason behind this nickname.
Criss’ costume comprises of his signature Catman face make-up and sleeved less, black and silver jumpsuit which he often wears during major KISS live performances. He is also often seen wearing studded leather bracelets and a studded belt. Due to KISS’s use of these accessories, leather studded clothing became popular in the 1980′s.
Although there are many versions of the Catman costume, the authentic suit often worn by Criss, his sleeved-less leather jumpsuit stands out as the most popular. This suit is also used by more Halloween-party goers since it appears to be the most recognizable.
To look exactly like Peter Criss’ on-stage Catman form, you need to use his signature platform Catman boots as well. This pair might be the most difficult part of the entire costume to find but an Authentic Catman costume will point you to owning the authentic Catman boots.
