There are many Hasbro action figure versions of the Cobra Commander. Beginning in 1982, one version or another has been available. The 1984 swivel arm is among the most popular and the inspiration for the GI Joe Cobra Commander adult costume described in the opening paragraph.

The only difference is that the blue jumpsuit covers the boots in the 1984 figurine. So, if you decide against the calf-high boots or the boot covers, you could always say that the swivel arm was your inspiration.

The “hooded” commanders were introduced in 1984, too, but they were available only through mail order. In 1992 and 1993, they were the mystery figures in the “collector’s kit”. It wasn’t until 1994 that the hooded bad guys were finally discontinued.

In addition to the use of a hood with eyes, instead of the eyeless silver mask, the hooded versions of the figurines have gold belts and leg bands. A GI Joe Cobra Commander adult costume hooded version would still include the classic blue jumpsuit.

The new movie “Rise of Cobra” has inspired a number of new action figures. Version 42 has an all-black leather look, with red trim and silver knee pads. No helmet on this character. The head is a featureless silver piece.
