Cars was not only a movie that featured talking and racing cars but it also featured most of today’s best car models. It also featured hybrids of various racing cars; Lightning McQueen for one is a hybrid of two kinds of automobiles.
You might be thinking that for a protagonist role, Lightning McQueen should at least be a luxury sports car; however, he is in fact a Le Man endurance car which has been altered to look like an ordinary car. His right race-car features give the impression that he was made exactly for long, paved roads.
Cars doesn’t feature race cars only; Mater, one of the main heroes of the film is a rusted tow truck which was patterned after the 1951 model of an International Harvester “boom” truck. His size and added features come from the Chevrolet Wrecker Tow Truck that was mixed into his design.
Another key character in Cars is Doc Hudson who is a 1951 Hudson Hornet. Although Doc Hudson calls himself a doctor, he was, at one time, one of the best racers of all time and was known as The Fabulous Hudson Hornet.
Lightning McQueen’s love interest in the film is a Porsche Carrera and is named Sally Carrera. Unlike the other cars in the film, she is a luxury sports car.
Lightning McQueen’s archenemy, on the other hand, is Chick Hicks, a General Motors G Platform. He is fast, stronger, and scarier-looking than the other cars but despite his speed and power, he loses the final racing tournament due to his selfishness.
The cars in Cars are models that became very popular in the past, and today, you could still find them on the road.
