Shrek started off intimidating and mean when he was first introduced in the first movie but later on, this “mean and intimidating” green ogre softened up and became everybody’s favorite green ogre. If movie-goers fell in love with Shrek, so did other females in the story; take for example, the beautiful princess-turned-ogress, Princess Fiona.
Princess Fiona was known for her beauty throughout the kingdom, but no one even knew how she looked like. Shrek was the first to find out when, after nightfall, Princess Fiona herself turned into a green ogress. Although Princess Fiona did not look as dashing as other princesses in the kingdom, in Shrek’s eyes, she was the prettiest of them all.
Although Fiona is known as Shrek’s leading lady, several other females starred in the movie and helped Shrek and Fiona undergo various challenges. Two of them had non-speaking roles but they surely added to the fun and the twist in Shrek’s tale!
Snow White
The 1930′s version of Snow White showed us a silent and a prim lady but in Shrek the Third, we are introduced to a butt-kicking spunky fairy tale princess who is ready to help her friends, Fiona and Shrek, in time of need. Snow White’s special abilities include high-pitched singing and screaming and communicating with animals to aide her.
Cinderella
Throughout Shrek the Third, we see Cinderella in her ball gown, complete with her glass slippers, but these slippers are no ordinary footwear, they can be used as fighting weapons and in the movie, they function as boomerangs. In the movie, Cinderella is portrayed as an obsessive-compulsive princess who simply can’t stand untidy surroundings.
Rapunzel
Although we are more accustomed to seeing a prim and proper princess in the movies, Shrek’s version of Rapunzel is one unusual character. For one, she knows Karate and… she’s bald; that doesn’t mean you need to be bald though to portray this spunky princess with ninja-like abilities.
Snow White, Cinderella and Rapunzel aren’t the only princesses in the story who made Shrek an even better movie. Queen Lillian, and the Fairy Godmother were present too, but they played antagonistic roles.
…And you might have forgotten about Dragon— this fire-breathing beast is a mum!
